Microchipping

Too often we see flyers on local bulletin boards and posts on social media about missing pets. In way too many cases, lost pets never make it back to their owners. Pearson Animal Hospital offers pet owners a safe, reliable, simple way of permanently identifying your pets without having to rely on faulty collars and tags.

A microchip that is about the size of a grain of rice is implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades of your pet. The procedure takes only a few minutes and can be performed during any visit to our hospital.

Each microchip has an assigned registration number that can be linked to your pet’s personal information such as name, owner’s name, address, contact information, and veterinarian’s information.

Veterinary clinics, animal shelters, and animal control facilities have scanners that can detect and read microchips. All stray animals are scanned for microchips, and if one is found, a call to the pet recovery database will alert the microchip company that a lost pet has been identified.

We love happy endings to stories about lost pets. Please consider microchipping your pet today and don’t forget to keep your contact information up to date.
